Welcome to the CMS Consortium website
The CMS Consortium (CMSC) is an international partnership of conservation organisations from the UK and the Netherlands whose aim is to raise standards in conservation and countryside management. The key ways that the CMS Consortium achieves this aim are by producing planning guidelines and software tools to make the whole process as simple as possible.
NEW - The CMS Management Planning Guide has now been substantially revised and is now available for free by clicking the link to the right
NEW - A new version of our software tool (CMSi) has now been released. This is a major step forwards and many thanks to our new Dutch members for helping produce this exciting product. With free in built mapping and role based customisation, CMSi now becomes the standard tool for managing your sites. Click here for more information.
We have now added some significant new tools to this website which we hope will make writing management plans easier whether you use our CMS software or not. We have published the results of the workshop run by the CMS Consortium and Eurosite which identified Core Management Planning Principles for conservation sites which are valid regardless of the approach used.
We have also added a suite of example management plans to this website provided by the Countryside Council for Wales and the RSPB.
The CMS Consortium is currently organising a series of webinars and regional planning seminars and are also involved in European wide workshops. These seminars involve talks on planning theory, examples of systems working within organisations and looking at software tools to aid planning.
The current version of the CMS software is CMSi. Used by hundreds of organisations, CMSi helps you write your management plan and uniquely integrates recording of work done with the plan. This in turn improves future planning as the past history of management is integrated with the plan but also aids reporting and corporate management of data.
You do not have to be a member of the CMSC to use CMSi but the advantages that membership bring are the involvement in the management and direction of the system and discounts on the software. CMSi is highly customisable allowing it to be used in different languages and there are hundreds of users across the British Isles, the rest of Europe and beyond.
